Jain Farstrider

Maybe I just missed the boat on this one or forgot about it, I'm not sure. Did you guys know that Jain Farstrider is Noal Charin. He is currently hanging out with Matt and Thom. I have been on a WOT kick and I was looking up one of the Forsaken on http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/ that had a link to someone else and so on and so forth. Next thing I know my mind is blown to find out that JF was still around and in the mix.

Explain what you just said in that in another way, that confused me and im lost.

In the first couple of books the kids from the two rivers talk about a book "The Travels of Jain Farstrider". It had always seemed to me that Jain Farstrider was long dead. However in my research today I found out that Jain had faked his own death and now goes by the name Noal Charin. Noal is now with Matt's party. I had never realized that he was still around.

Wow that is really cool i thought you were saying that noal was "like" jain. That is really cool i didn't know Jain Farstider was a real person.

This is tad hard to believe. Jain Fairstrider is always talked about as IF he/she were long dead. When was the development written? Be careful of what you read online because it may simply be someone's personal interpretation.

I went to www.encyclopedia-wot.org. They work in conjunction with Dragonmount and WOTmania.org. I realize that people can put whatever they want but this website has citations from the books. I wasn't able to get access to the site today or I would have put them here. If you check out the character pages and look at Jain Farstrider it gives his real name and explains that he went on many adventures which he wrote in his memoirs "The Travels of Jain Farstrider" He went into the blight and wasn't heard from for a while, believed to be dead then he arrived at a stedding and warned of the Dark One stirring. He then changed his name to Noal Chacin(not sure on the spelling). Then when Matt first encounters the Gollum he meets Noal who he still travels with. Check out that website, like I said they give books and page numbers for these facts.

Ok, I'll take a look. It IS interesting. God knows I could have missed it. The series is only around 9,000 pages long...lol.

Jordan definietly leads you to believe Noal is Jain Farstrider. The way Olver glamorizes JF in one of the chapters (I couldn't tell you which book, 9 probably), Noal goes on to tell him it isn't as good as it sounds and that Jain abandoned a perfectly good family. Noal also tells Olver about Shara and other far off lands. This could just be him making stuff up, but they are all places JF has written about.

There are alot of other situations written in as well. If Noal isn't Jain Farstrider, he is definitely is family. a friend or associate of him. I am disappointed that no one else picked this while reading! Are you guys just skimming to the battles? It was mentioned in the Eye of the World (ch 47, 594 - 595) that Jain Farstrider's real last name was Charin, the same as Noal's. Lord Agelmar is telling the story of the fall of Malkier: "When Cowin Fairheart's treachery was revealed and he was taken by young Jain Charin - already called Jain Farstrider..."

Ya know, newb, you come on here touting your infinite knowledge of all things WoT and then you insult us for not remembering 1--1!--character out of Jordan's 1,880 named characters. Now in all sense and reason, is that fair?

Here's some more on the Noal Charin/Jain Farstrider bit. Very interesting stuff and I'm going to start looking for it more now that I know what I'm looking for.
